Summary of the project

The creation research project “Ajax, the man. Visibilization of gender-based violence experienced by men” allowed to know, through the fulfillment of each of its objectives, the way in which a scenic creation was configured in a territory generating senses about the different modalities of violence suffered by men in their life course and, therefore, it becomes relevant and urgent the recognition of male vulnerability and in that sense to generate actions in favor of considering them as “subjects of care”.

The work became a territory, an experience, it could even be said, a laboratory that opened the possibility for various reflections on the meaning of being a man, on the link, in the course of life, between men and women, on the burden suffered by men in a patriarchal society. Therefore, it can be said that “Hombre Flor”, as a visualization laboratory, fundamentally enabled two views on masculinity: the man seen under the oppression of his own gender and virility exposed as a condition that leads men to behave in ways that injure them or through which they injure others, hurt them or are perpetrators of injuries to other men.

This was achieved through the interaction of various languages that make up the work, including performance, dance, theater and audiovisual. This interaction was configured as a fabric, as a warp through which situations, events, statistics appeared, revealing a reality that very few knew about. With what has been said, some important conclusions can be drawn:

The first one, the power of artistic creation to mobilize different reflections about social problems, in this particular case, about gender violence experienced by men. In this case, the work became a vehicle or tool to make visible a complex situation for men and with it, the idea of thinking about men’s care.

On the other hand, the research line interrelating science, art and technology was strengthened. With this, it can be said that the project achieved, through the different phases, the generation of a different study on Sophocles’ Ajax, the realization of a scenic production that aesthetically bets on the interaction between the body, the video projection and the audiovisual and that the play is taken as a laboratory of interpretation on a topic of the social and human sciences.
